After the disappointing experience of finding a closed castle we strolled towards the garden, other tourists too headed towards this beautiful spacious garden. The original elaborate flower garden was designed by Dominique Girard. It was later redesigned a couple of times and turned in to a landscape garden.
Walking through the rows of trees lining the garden was a fanciful experience. It felt like we were walking through a tunnel of trees. Observing carefully I saw that most of the tree trunks were hollow. They are inserted with metal rods to provide strength to the tree trunks. Obviously the trees were many many years old… may be a century or so I guessed. Spring would the ideal season to visit the beautiful garden.

trees with braces--that is interesting! this garden is beautiful, the second photo is magical. reminds me of the garden beside Buckingham Palace.:p
Beautiful shots, Indrani.
Wow, the line of trees is sure interesting! And even more interesting is to know that they are centuries old! And simple german engineering to give strength to the tree trunks!
Interesting to see the tree bracings...something new I didnt know before...
Good shots Indrani
Stunning gardens! Love that shot of the trees lining the avenue.
hollow trees?! ^0^
now that's interesting Indrani,
i think it shows how old these trees were and how much they are "not" taken for granted.
That tree-lined shot is gorgeous. When I visit garden grounds on a sunny day, I have no time for going inside, but I can empathize with your disappointment of finding it closed.
Brilliant garden and the trees, great photos.
Fine images, Indrani. The tunnnel of trees is so lovely!
That's a beautiful garden.
I love the second photo, beautiful gardens.
Lovely garden. Really interesting to note that steel rods are used to reinforce old tree trunks. Much like plates used to set broken bones.
Beautiful gardens! but I wonder why the rods were placed. Normally nature takes care of itself.
Sounds like a fascinating place.. the 2nd pic with trees all lined up on either side looks straight out of a picture postcard
