Mahadwara, Inside Chitradurga Fort

The Mahadwara (grand entrance) at Sampige Siddeshwara Temple, inside Chitradurga Fort, near Bangalore. This is a cave temple, it gets the name from the trees of Champaka, a variety of highly fragrant flowers growing around the temple. The temple is dedicated to lord Shiva.

The courtyard of the temple has a square platform where the chiefs of Chitradurga Fort were crowned. An inscription of 1355 AD there records the construction of the stone mahadwara pavilion at the entrance.

My internet problems are far from over. I am seriously contemplating on changing the present internet service provider. Hopefully problems will get sorted out soon. Thanks so much to all of you for your support, comments and visits.

Nice photo. The angle of the camera keeps the buruju(watch tower) to the left, made me wonder about where you clicked it from. If I am not wrong, it must be 14.2145405N 76.3956782E?
